I bought a Fender 400 recently and I need somebody within a reasonable drive from Asheville, NC to work on it. It's too heavy to ship economically. Does anyone know of anyone?

Tom, I had one that I took down and redid.. Probably the simplest mechanism of any steel.. And lots of people here cut their teeth on them.

Simple cable system, spares can be made from stuff at ACE, etc.

You might want to discuss your issue with some pictures and I would guess you could do it with input from the forum..

Just a thought..

Tom- I wish I was down there. I have had a few of these and have done lots of tinkering. Mostly with good outcome. PM or email me specific problem(s) and maybe I can help.

Since you're not selling this guitar, you'll probably have better luck posting this in the Pedal Steel section.

Some (but not all) of the tuning screws don't seem to do anything. I turn them and turn them to no effect. Others work fine. Other than that, I'm loving it, but of course I can't play it if I can't tune the pedals.

Well, there are only a couple of points that might affect that..

One, the Y end is connected to two points, both of which have strong enough springs to provide resistance.

Two, where it feeds through the rollers, it is in its own groove and turns freely

Three, the barrel and screws at the pedal end are not stripped

And I suppose four that the cable is not totally stretched out..
