I have more hum on my Sho Bud pedal steel than I do on my lap steels. It is even more significant thru my Nashville 400 than thru my Twin Reverb. Is this common?

It is common that larger (higher impedance) PU single coils are more sensitive to hum than smaller (lower impedance) PU single coils. The coil to cover more strings on the ShoBud, has probably around twice the impedance compared to the coils on your lap steels that most likely have fewer strings.
