With the visit of the Pontiff to these shores and inspired by his simple but rousing speeches I was reminded again of this tune that refers to the country of his birth. From the pens of Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice, this is a new version. Key of D. Played on the Steelocaster, pick-up positions 5 and 1. Backing by Gary Taylor and Trevor Spencer of UB Hank.
Madonna starred in the film "Evita" featuring the song and its history in 1996 along with co-stars Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Pryce, a role she had long desired.

Kay... I really loved this, more than your other tunes even--it captures the expanse of the Argentine pampas, and retains the folk melody
that is the essence of 'Spanish' music; I'm having to listen to it again. It even cries a little at one point, very poignant.
The Pope's presence in this hemisphere reminds us of his roots, and the simplicity of the melody and your production is in keeping with that,
a pleasant reminder of what's important. Very nice and spacious, and very musical, I must add. |

Many thanks for your gracious comments and encouragement. I think the steel guitar can bridge many culture gaps....
Yes, while creating the recording I felt that a bit more of a "Spanish" and "folk" touch, as you put it, than is present in many contemporary recordings, would be in order. I used a foot-pedal in some parts, which I do not often. If I remember well, you do have some association with Argentina, a country I have always wanted to visit.
If more world leaders were cast in the mould of Pope Francis, there would be more peace and less wars on Planet Earth, I feel...
