It was an outdoor gig under a large tent, dirt floor, rainy night, about 60°F. I was playing my Desert Rose S-8 (Truetone pickup wound to about 13K) with a Goodrich pot pedal into the Milkman Half and Half. The amp was miked and pumped into 2 of the 4 monitor mixes (mine and the piano player's, at the far side of the stage).
Afterwords, half a dozen people commented on how sweet the steel sounded. They all used that word, "sweet". Seems like a good time to document my amp settings. Left to right, it's volume, treble, midrange, bass, reverb, reverb tone.

b0b,
With a Mullen G2 and single coil pickup, Goodrich pot pedal, into a Half and Half, our sweet spots are really close. Room conditions can change it slightly, but for the most part I run the mids just a little higher than you. It's really hard to not get great tone with this amp. |

Having the controls all at noon +/- a couple of hours says something about how this amp is inherently tuned. Good job, Tim! _________________ "The Masher of Touch and Tone"

FWIW, my amp has a low gain reverb tube (I forget the tube number) because I wanted a larger usable range on the knob. I don't use much reverb. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I tried a 12DW7(?) to tame the reverb a bit, but it caused a hum. Returned it for another which also hummed. Gave up and just use a lower setting. I haven't had much opportunity to use it in a band setting lately, but it sounds better at higher volumes. Rich, warm, with none of the spikiness of a Nashville 400(which I also like). |

I've done the same thing with my reverb driver, b0b. Much more useable range, for me. Your settings very close to mine although always a bit more bass, for me. Might be the Universal setup… Milkman. What a fine amp. _________________ Stop by the Steel Store at: www.markvanallen.com

Mine about the same a little less treble, but I have a 12" combo. Using with a G2 as well...sounds super. |

No, it was a 12DW7. My Half&Half is one of the first batch of 4 that Tim made. He modified the reverb circuit soon after that, so I wouldn't recommend the 12DW7 to anyone. It worked for this particular amp, that's all. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |
