That's not Pete. I believe he did play on Linda's recording of the tune though. Heart Like a Wheel LP, I think?

You're probably right Stormy. I just listened to the lp cut on YT and it's definitely not Pete. The years have sullied my memory, I guess. Sorry for the clutter Dan.

My copy of "Heart Like A Wheel" list Pete as the player, and it definitely sounds like him.

I wonder if she recorded it several different times.

Could be Emmylou's band backing her on the tv clip, she's singing harmony....
And DeVito was with Emmylou at the time, right?

Yeah, Olli. If Skip says it's Hank, it's Hank. Kinda wish I hadn't referenced the LP cut. Sometimes it's best to keep silent. Embarassed

If it's Emmylou Harris' band, why doesn't the guitar player sound like James Burton? It's definetly not him.

The clip is from the Dolly Parton show in 1976, no idea who plays on it , except for DeVito.

One more reason to be suspicious of the CD format.

On the Dolly Parton Show clip that is Joe McGuffee He was Dolly's steel player from about 76 to the early 80's. I grew up about a mile from Joe Have known him all my life. He is a very good guy and a great player.

I'll defer to Jimmy on this one. It does look like Hank, but through the veil of about 40 years...well, y'know how it is...
