I have the music tab (Merle Haggard) but I'm looking for the Intro he used on "Mama Tried." If you have one, please PM me. Thanks, Fred

Carl Merle Haggard's record is done with a 6 strimg guitar. Joe Wright does it on steel and I told Fred this. He may have a lesson on it. I haven't found it yet. Thanks, I haven't tried Greg Cutshaw.

IMHO, the fingerpicking guitar part in the background of the Mama Tried intro is just as important as the lead line. The guitar player I work with plays the fingerpicking part and I play the single note guitar line on Steel, which really isn't that hard. Here's how I play it in the key of D ...
On the 17th fret pick the 5 string with A pedal down. Let off of the A pedal ( 8th notes ) and then play the 6th string with the B pedal down ( quarter note ) on the 15th fret. Then play the same lick an octave down on the 5 fret and the 3 fret. Then strings 6,8 and 10 no pedals ( an A chord ) and then hit the A and B pedal ( a D chord ), the A chord on the 1st beat of the measure and the D chord on the "and" of one. I'm not sitting behind a Steel right now but I think that is correct. Good luck. Try to get someone to play the fingerpicking part on guitar, its two measures of D. Its not a hard intro to play but I always love playing it.

Guys,
I've heard that Roy Nichols (Merle's iconic regular 6 stringer) AND the great James Burton played on the original recording of Mama Tried. If so, who played the initial finger-picking, and who did the higher register bends?
JB's one of my favorite all time players.
