Does anyone have a set of plans or design for a 12" speaker cabinets or know where to find them?

I looking to build a couple for either Eminence or Telonic 12" speakers.

I have a set of the old black Peavey open back cabs with 12 BW's in them. I think they were called 112E. Can I just use that design?

Thnaks, JimE

The "Nashville 112E" speaker cabinets are very good. However, a smaller would probably work. I have been considering a 12" instead of the 15" and would consider the Nashville 112 amp cabinet as model.

Jim, I have a Peavey 112SX cab that sounds OK. It dimensionally is the same as a silver stripe Bandit. If you are interested, I'll measure it for you.

Jack - I have both 15" and 12" and my ear likes the 12" better(most of the time). I leave them at a place I play twice a week and therefor wanting a set I can have at home or for a quick trip.

What do you mean by " a smaller would probably work"? It would have to be in the height?

Bill - Yes, I would be interested in the dimensions. Thanks.

Then Nashville 112 amp cabinet is sized for a 12" speaker. The amp, which has a 12" speaker, sounds very good. From that I would suspect the cabinet size was "tuned" for a 12" speaker.

The new Travis Toy "TT" model Eminence sounds interesting. I've tried the Eminence EPS-12C (two different EPS-12C's) and although its supposed to be a 12" version of the EPS-15C its not. It has too much high and would really work better for a Telecaster than a Pedal Steel.

I'm using an Eminence EPS-15C right now and its working fine and sort of a JBL like sound. I had a Twin Reverb with an JBL K-130 speaker and the EPS-15C has that sound.

Thanks Jack.

I don't think the TT will work. I'm using a Stereo Steel unit and it "needs" 4 ohm speakers I think.

Not really sure about this 4 ohm/8 ohm thing. Perhaps you can shed some light on the subject. Can you use 4 ohm speakers on a 8 ohm unit and vice versa? Please educate me if you would. Thanks. JimE

There have been several threads on here about using an 8 ohm speaker with one designed for 4 ohms. There is a very slight difference in volume, but not enough to matter.

Tim tried one in his Milkman amp and said it didn't make any difference at all.

Jim, the Peavey 112SX is 23Hx19Wx11D. It is made with a removeable rear center panel, I have played through it both ways, I can't tell a lot of difference, maybe a little more bass, if you get loud.

Thanks Bill.

Jack. I just don't want to destroy any equipment.

I have done some searching but this forum search engine leaves something to be desired for me. I get mostly stuff I didn't search for. Thanks

Jim,

I have a pdf file for a cabinet I just built. It uses a 15" JBL K130 but could easily be cut for a 12" speaker. I designed it to use the corner protectors and other parts from a Cube 80 that I found on ebay.

If you mean the speaker cover it was ordered here http://www.reliablehardware.com/customspeakergrill-14diastaggered.aspx

If you mean the cabinet I just sprayed it with a few cans of black bed liner paint.

No problem Jim, the next cabinet I make I will try this product. http://www.parts-express.com/acry-tech-duratex-black-1-pint-roller-grade-cabinet-texture-coating-kit-with-textured-3-ro--260-100

The truck bed liner spray was avaible locally but I'm not too happy with the finish.

Seems like a good option. Have you seen it applied to anything?

I picked up a gallon of this stuff. http://www.amazon.com/Herculiner-HCL1B8-Brush-Bed-Liner/dp/B0002TDUW4

Haven't opened it so it can still be returned.

Thanks,
JimE

Jim the Herculiner might work just fine. I looked at that too. But got cheap and bought the rattle can version. It took forever to dry.

We used this stuff to recoat all our PA cabs. It is awesome to work with, easy to clean up, looks great, and a little goes a long ways. It wouldn't hesitate for a second to use it again.
