I'm looking for a smaller rig, and only need one speaker. Does the stereo steel sound as good with one speaker as it does with both? I would assume that there wouldn't be a difference in sound quality... but I've been completely wrong on things before!

The few times I've heard one live has always been one speaker. Sounded great to me.

I always use two speakers with mine. Sometimes 2-12 inch B/W's
and sometimes two 15 inch B/W's. I really love that stereo sound.
Back in my younger years I used 2 Session 500's for stereo, and
the Stereo Steel is the closest to that nice sound I've ever heard.

I use my Walker SS with only one speaker at times. I use one ESP 15c or sometime combine it in stereo with a 15" Sica to tame some highs. Also I have used it with the Sica speaker only and of course I have do use it with twin cabs loaded with ESP 15C speakers in stereo.

Let your imagination run wild Very Happy

The Walker SS is s great part of my amp herd.

Carl, I don't need a ton of sound, but don't quite think a 2" BW is gonna cut it! Laughing

Thanks to all who have replied so far. I'm ultimately asking about the SS because I've been looking for a different sound out of my Peavey... I've thought about getting a sarno black box and/or lil izzy and/or george l cables and/or a Fox chip mod and/or.... well, you get the picture!! But now I'm beginning to think I'd probably end up spending so much money that I could've just gotten a SS w/ Lexicon effects and one speaker! I'm looking for a cleaner, warmer sound with more string separation. Any thoughts?

My signal path is Rains Guitar > Lil' Izzy >into the processor of your choice > Walker SS.

I've tried the TC Electronics M350 = not for me.

Just a Holy Grail Nano reverb pedal to the SS = kinda like that set up.

And now going to try the Peavey Profex II this weekend with the SS.

As you see most of the chain you choose will be subjective to your taste.

BTW I found my Walker SS rack for $650.

Good luck

Chuck

Ha-ha Dave. Laughing I replaced the 2" speakers with 15", no lows on the 2".
I use a Lexicon MX300 with one and a Lexicon MX400 with the other one. Very Happy
