Couple quick gear questions......

The '53 Fender Custom T8 I just bought definitely has a bum trapezoid pickup, it turns out. Needs to be repaired or rewound. Who is doing that currently, and any idea of approximate cost? We've already removed the whole unit, and it's ready to be shipped off.

Also, now that I know what's going on with the steel, I'm going to restring it, one neck C6 and the other the Leon McAuliffe E13 tuning. Are there any available 8 string sets that will work with that E13, or do I need to piecemeal it together with single strings?

Thanks!

- Jim

Ok.....to answer my 2nd question, it looks like if I get another plain .018 for the 2nd string C#, this set should work, no?

Assuming.....

Leon's E13 (with approximate gauges):

.015p E
.018p C#
.018p B
.022p G#
.030w F#
.034w D
.046w G#
.056w E

I just had one rewound by Tom Brantley. He did a great job for around $60 plus shipping.

I'd get a .017 for the C# and a plain .024 for the F#... why double up on the .018? I use slinkier strings, they pull easier and sound better with a ceramic bar... my gauges are lower, I start around .013.

I prefer slightly heavier for short scale guitars like the Custom so I use a .015 on my top E.
