In 1984, I was hired to record some old school Jazz players at the Thunderbird Lodge at the Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico. I used a 4 track two speed cassette recorder.
Bassist, Milt Hinton was one of the players. He played for Count Basie, Billie Holiday & Cab Calloway among countless others.
One of the nights I recorded, he sang his signature song, "Old Man Time". Since he didn't usually sing, I didn't have a mic set up for him so his vocal was not very present in the mix.
The following day, he asked me to his room to overdub a vocal that would be more present.
The results are unusual:
