Looking for 9/32 or maybe 5/16 aluminum rod. Welding rod is 1/8. I tried the usual suspects. Any help appreciated.

Did you call a local welding shop? I think you are near Appleton, but that is a guess from memory because your signature just says Wisconsin. But I googled Appleton Wisconsin welding supply and got a lot of choices.

You need a welding supply shop rather than a hardware store for guaranteed availability of 36 inch lengths.

Here's a few choices.
http://midwestmetalwarehouse.com/aluminum/6061/round/1/5-16-rd-6061-t6511-aluminum-extruded.html
They're a metal supply company out of Menomonee Falls, WI.
They state that they also sell through ebay so I did a serch and found
http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Pieces-5-16-ALUMINUM-6061-ROUND-ROD-24-long-Solid-T6511-312-Bar-/351422316203?hash=item51d266feab Don't think that this is one of their listings but would be a reasonable price for the quantity.

Don't know how much you need and Ø5/16" is big enough to beat someone with, so if you're looking for material for pull rods, I have that on my website.

6061 is available at both Lowe's and Home Depot but it's not as high a quality. It's usually oversize on the diameter and finish isn't as good as purchasing from a metals supplier.

Are you going to be using them for pull rods?...If so I would be interested what you come up with as I am building a light steel.
Carl.
