I know a couple of guys that have these. Does anyone else have experience with these? They're a few years old now but I'm just hearing about them. They seem like they could be a useful tool for a double duty guy like me. I searched youtube for demos but every one of them has crunchy tone. No one demos clean tones!!!

They're not about clean at all... folks using them are looking for 'cranked' tone. One fact... the less efficient the magnet structure is, the more the voice coil will dissipate the watts as heat... there's probably a reason these are not on everyone's radar even though they've been out for a while (first I'm hearing of them too).
Here's a quote from the website: "For the first time, during this test, I was able to fully enjoy the cranked tones of several of my larger amps in the project studio without overwhelming the space, and without the detrimental effects that so many other output-impeding devices often have on my tone." If you want to reach in the back of the amp and turn the big knobs when you switch axes, then perhaps these are for you. They only handle 75watts apiece. _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

Thanks Stephen.
I still would be interested hearing from someone that has actually used them, or perhaps make an audio clip to share.

I used the Reignmaker over a few month period when I was actively gigging six string in a rock band. My goal was to dial in the right balance of loudness and power tube breakup for an amp that sounded its best right on the edge of breakup but otherwise way too loud for the stage.
This speaker has a lot more presence fizz than even a modern Celestion G12M Greenback... It sounded good with six string clean tones. ..ok with high gain single note leads. .. and not great at all with crunch tones.
The FDM dial worked well. .. but ultimately I concluded that I simply had to source low efficiency speakers...period. I did think the presence fizz voiced in this speaker was over the top and may have preferred the Maverick. |

Thanks Tom. I'm mostly interested in the Maverick. Maybe I'll just try it and report back. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ Dave Zirbel-

Dave, I'll try to record you a clip with my ShoBud running into a BFDR with the Maverick. Turned to zero attenuation (max efficiency), it sounds clean and warm. But different than the D120F I had in there prior. The Mav is a bit warmer to me. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |
