A longtime friend, Rev. Don Drake, is getting back into steel after several years not playing and has a S-10 GFI that double raises the first string to G# and the second string to F, also lowering the sixth string to F#.

These are new changes since he used to play and he would like to know how some of you players are using these changes. I gave him a few suggestions and recommended that he do a Forum search on the "Paul Franklin" pedal to get information, especially on the string six changes.

How about some of you helping Don by posting uses you are making of the raises on the chromatic strings? Don visits the Forum and it would be a great help to him. He has an excellent ear and hears things on recent records that he suspects are connected with these changes. HELP Thanks

I hope you mean a raise to E on the 2nd string, Fred. That's the standard change.

I assume you mean raising the second string to E. That along with the first string raise will get you a V-I resolution.

1/--5--5RR--
2/--5--5R---
3/----------
4/----------
5/--5--5----

I use the 6th string lower most often with a knee lever. Lowering the E's along with it will get you a I-V change. Lowering the B's will get a I-II7 change.

I-V

4/--5--5L----
5/--5--5-----
6/--5--5LL---

I-II7

4/--5--5----
5/--5--5L---
6/--5--5LL---

Hope this helps.

Drew
