I took my LTD out the other night, and used a Lil Izzy, and Blue Sky reverb. I have never received so many compliments on the sound quality, a lot more than when I use the Stereo Steel rig. I really enjoyed the clear sound, and string separation, so it goes to show you don't need a 3K amp to sound good.

It's probably the best sounding buffer I've heard.

I have this one very dark, almost muddy Laney solid state amp I picked up on a lark. Not a very good amp for steel, or much anything else Or so I thought.
Last week I was hankering for a stereo sound, and plugged into it to check the signal before I hooked up my other amp with it and I got this really thick creamy lively sound that reminded me of the beginning of "Waltz Across Texas". I was churning butter.

It was the first time I'd used that amp with my steel since I got your Li'l Izzy, Craig. The previously "too dark" qualities of the amp became an attribute. I was floored, and I've been picking on that amp since. This little box never ceases to amaze me.

Stu, to expand on the comment, since Craig didn't, cables and pots can suck tone from the system through capacitance losses. This is a part of the high impedance signal. Lower impedance signals are less prone to this effect.
The Lil Izzy converts the high impedance signal to a low impedance signal.
There are other devices out there, but the wide consensus is that the Izzy is at or near the top.

Gary, I would be willing to help you out and buy that ugly guitar you have been playing. Some other guitar might make that LTD sound even better. Laughing

Not to take anything away from the Izzy, it is a great product, and a big help in getting a consistent good tone, but it's hard to beat an LTD in good shape. It's been my favorite steel amp for quite a while. I've used it on stages where other guitar players had impressive displays of boutique and vintage amps, and the sound man would be almost making fun of it (who own this PEAVEY?), until after soundcheck and they want to know all about the Peavey. A good LTD should really cost way more than they do.

When I blew my K-130-4 about 10 years ago, I had it re coned to an 8 ohm, and it sounds as good or better now.

I am 1 year in on my Lil Izzy after Buck Reid and Mickey Adams recommended this great product to me. I use a Nashville 400 and a Pro III sho-bud with a hilton volume pedal. My tone is to die for. Not only does Craig build a great product when you talk to him you get good comic relief and a wonderful person to talk to. The Lil Izzy practically sells itself. Craig thank you for a wonderful product that i affectionally call the Viagra of pedal steel. Slim

Mike,
As always, thank you for your compliments regarding Li'l Izzy.

When performing, one must never confuse impedance with impotence.
