When it comes to old pickups that have gathered oxidation (particularly on the screws for example) - if the pickup is working should this be messed with? Or if it's working and sounding good should I just leave it alone? Are there safe ways to clean oxidation on pickups?

Thanks!

I don't like to mess with things that feel or sound the way I like them, unless it is a minor adjustment. When I am not happy in either of those departments, i will tear things apart to get them the way I want them. I am also not overly concerned with the appearance, although I had a Rickenbacher with an oxidized horseshoe pickup that drove me nuts.

I realize everyone has a different threshold of tolerance.

Same as Mike.

If it sounds good its fine. HOWEVER rust usually breeds rust so I'd keep an eye on it if I were you.

Shocked

Thank you Stefan and Mike. You are both are spot on with my thinking - leave it alone if it sounds fine but monitor the rust....all the while fighting my natural OCD nature :-P
