I was reading Damir's post on a lighter guitar. I have GFI and the case does weigh almost as much as the guitar.
Has anybody tried a gig bag or other options in cases. I really would like to find something lighter.

Kevin Hatton made 2 piece case for me. They are well built,
and very light for us old folks. About 20 lbs lighter to carry.

Kevin's splits. Wheels on the guitar, and the metal bits in the hand.

I also build split cases with wheels which will distribute the load.

My wife's GFI Expo S-10 was also heavy and built like a "battleship". I built a lighter case using Baltic Birch plywood. It took quite a bit of weight off of the case.

I have a 2 piece, Baltic Birch, case that I built for my Franklin D-10, but a two piece is overkill for the GFI S-10.

Dan Bentley in Nashville makes fiberboard (?) cases that are extremely light. He mad a split pair for my Sho Bud Professional that are worth their lack of weight in gold.

Dan, does Dan Bentley have a website? I searched but could not find one though I found images of his cases below. How much do the cases cost and what do yours weigh?
Hugh, do you have a website to check out weights and cost of your cases? Very nice looking cases as are Kevin H.'s.

Photos of Dan Bentley's cases:

Steve,

Danny is a forum member, so you might try PMing him:

http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=290

He's also on Facebook, so you could try sending a message there as well.

I paid $250 for my set. As to how much they weigh, the short answer is: very, very little. According to the extremely unreliable bathroom scale I use for shipping purposes, I'd say the larger case weighs @8-9 lbs, the smaller one, @3 lbs.

I'm also looking for a set of split cases of x-tremely light weight. I talked to Danny Bentley this past January and he told me that he is no longer making cases. If anyone knows another source of similar fiber cases please let me know.

I was going to contact Danny about a speaker case, sorry to hear he quit making them. I have one of his Nashville 112 fiber cases. It has held up well.

Jack - I'm curious what a NV112 fiber case looks like. Does it cover both the top and bottom of amp?

Perhaps if there were enough interest shown Danny would gear up the case assembly line again. I'd buy a split set for a steel and maybe an amp case too.

The fiber 112 case is just like a regular cover, no bottom. The fiber case can also be used for an amp stand, with a relatively light amp like the NV112.

Here is a picture with my NV112 on top of it.

I have two ShoBud D-10s. One is in a Danny Bently split case. The other is in a Hugh Briley split case. I like them both, but the Briley is my favorite for fit, finish and protection.

Tom,

how does the weight of the Briley compare to the Bentley?

Those are my Bently Cases in the photos Steve posted. I had those made for my very heavy MSA Classic XL. Makes traveling with it so much more bearable. I made some foam inserts for the main case and use it for my Carter D10. Too bad Dan is not making these cases anymore. If had the time I would try to get the materials and make my own. They are extremely light and well made.

Dan, the Bently is lighter, but by only a small amount. I think the costs are similar too.
