Okay, I swear I will get around to actually using my real recording gear instead of recording to the I-phone, but for now I just feel like putting some rough and tumble stuff out there because it's fun and easy.
This is me messin' around with a tune I've been writing on a Double 8 console I built.
BTW, what may sound in this recording like mistakes or clams to the uneducated ear are, in fact, esoteric jazz licks that I have invented to musically imitate the sound of mistakes and clams. You can trust me on this because I am a Professional Musician.

Quite nice. Sounds reminiscent of early steel recordings.
I would back off of some of the additional vibrato with your hand when playing but sounds great keep it up.

But what does an Englishman know about vibrato?
Just kidding. Really.
Thank you for listening. My steel playing is a work in progress, and finessing vibrato is something I only occasionally feel that I am getting close to. Not enough/too much is more often my M.O.. On something as raw, unrehearsed, and unstructured as this piece, I do tend to go way overboard. It's a wonder I don't fall off the stool.
It's the same with a volume pedal, which I am not using here. I'm getting better at both vibrato and using a volume pedal, but I am not yet where I want to be. It's the learning that is so exciting, like when I actually get something right, I am excited, and run to tell the wife.
Also, thank you for noting my attempt at creating a new old style tune. I often do this with the lyrics and tunes of my vocal songs. I like some new style songs, too, but often wonder why what I think of as the the Golden Years ended. |
