Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives brought the house down last night at City Winery Chicago. It seems like they played close to two hours, with each member of the band sharing the spotlight.
If you watch "The Marty Stuart Show" on RFD-TV, there's not much I can add about their virtuosity and their showmanship. If you don't, by all means tune in, or even better, go see them live.
Here's a photo of Chris Scruggs's double neck steel. He only did one song on it, a beauty, a blues boogie number.
Chris and a slightly-intoxicated fan after the show
Here's a poem Marty wrote on the passing of his late steelman, Gary Hogue, in 2000.
Marty and Chris were nice enough to autograph a section of "Hummingbyrd," which I had tabbed out.

The Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River, MA had Marty and his group perform last December and it was a sold out crowd. What a show and all acoustic as it snowed and was not user friendly moving gear. It was like a concert in your living room. Absolutely wonderful. |

What a great post, Frank! I've had a chance to hear his band with Gary Hogue in the nineties. They were part of the "Festival Of New Country" (Emmylou Harris mocked the categorization). Thanks! _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |
