I go one from Guitar Center tried it and am pretty happy at this time. A live gig will tell the real story. I pack around a keyboard for a couple of background organ chops etc, this will be much easier to work with and has lots of variability. It tracks pedal slurs no problem.

Hey Larry,
Been very curious about the C9 with steel. Do you find the slurs & bends to be a plus or a minus? Does it sound weird to have an organ that bends?

Would be cool to meet up with you & put it thru its paces - maybe we could record it for my podcast?

I have the Hog... which is more like a general purpose synth but very Hammond organ in overall tonality. ..the wave shaping filters are the same as the pulls on a Hammond.

Curious to know how the C9 compares to the B9 box...

Hey, Bryan, I did a demo of the B9 for Tom Bradshaw, and included some pedal moves and slurs which track well and sounded just fine, to me. The thing to avoid IMO is slides of more than a full step, just too unsettling. But the B9 tracks extremely well and really gives a solid Hammond vibe. Paired with a nice Leslie Sim, it could be nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.

I also want to hear the differences in the C9, I haven't had a chance to try one out yet.

I was so impressed with the B9 that I bought a bunch of them for resale. As revealed by Mark van Allen, I had him do a demo for me, similar to his demonstration of my MXR Resonator effects pedal. Regarding the B9, I will get it described and posted on my web site very soon. Because of my lingering, ElectroHarmonics probably did another production run and, as usual, changed the model number to prompt potential customers into believing that the new model is much better than the previous one.

For anyone wanting to buy the B9 ($220.00), do remember that if returned within 10 days (for any reason), I'll refund your purchase price. Rather than wonder how beneficial this unit would be to enhance the variety of sounds offered at a musical performance, just order one from me to try it out. If you are a past customer of mine, I'll probably send you one for such a trial if you just asked me to. Tom (tommybradshaw@gmail.com)

Hey Tom W.: In my just-posted post I state "Regarding the B9, I will get it described and posted on my web site very soon." I've just been so busy with other obligations I haven't gotten around to posting a description and Mark's demonstration of the unit on steel guitar on my web site.

If you are intrigued by what has been said here and would like to check it out, just let me know. I'll fire off one to you for a trial. ...Tom

Actually, they haven't changed the model number. You're supposed to buy them BOTH. As could be expected from a company that has FIFTEEN different "Big Muffs" for sale, each one of the organ pedals is better than the other. Laughing

Oops, Tom, didn't mean to paint you into an internet corner! I thought you had posted that stuff somewhere I hand 't seen it…

Guys, if you're considering adding organ sounds to your palette, don't hesitate to take Tom up on his offer. These are fantastic unit, track great and sound fabulous. Lots of people have used various Leslie simulators over the years, and they can give you the swirly speaker sound all right, but the B9 and presumably C9 give you the actual tone wheel and drawbar sound of a real Hammond, very convincing, and the perfect answer for what to do on some of those rock and pop songs where you just can't figure out how to shoehorn pedal licks in!

Hadn't even seen this thread prior to ordering, but on an experimental whim I ordered a C9 yesterday, should arrive after the weekend... really looking forward to trying it out and will try to remember to report back!

Add tremolo in your fx unit and it will make a big difference. I have tried a touch of overdrive also, the story is still out on that.

The difference between the B9 and the C9 is the different sounds they produce. The B9 is more or less devoted just to different B3 drawbar setting, while the C9 is mostly non-Hammond sounds. The C9 seems to have been mostly modeled after specific songs or keyboardists. I borrowed my boss's B9, compared the B9 and C9 (on regular guitar) in Guitar Center, and bought the C9.

In my opinion, the C9 offers more variety and is more fun to use. It even has a flute Mellotron setting for some good ol' "Strawberry Fields Forever" fun. The EHX videos for the B9 and the C9 do a pretty good job of demonstrating all nine different sounds each of them have.

Edit I forgot to add: Both pedals have a latency that is (in my opinion) long enough to be noticeable, but not long enough to be bothersome.

Actually, I remember the Hammond products as having some "latency."

For guitar I have the B9 and I'm sure I'll also get the C9 for the other organ tones it has compared to the B9 Hammond B3 tones.

What I miss is the expression pedal I have with my Roland GR33. I wish EH would add a pedal to control the Leslie rotating speaker effect.

However, the EH B9 is better at tracking and attack then the Roland GR33 B3 tones just miss the Leslie.

So I guess I could get a Leslie pedal?

In real life gig situations, I don't usually have the time to fool with all the different sounds, so I just use the original B9 on either the 1st or 2nd preset and it works and sounds great. I use it mostly when we do Bob Seger songs.
No problem with latency as I mostly hold chords or play arpeggios.

I heard a brief demo last weekend from Tony Palmer, and decided to order a C9. I am happy with my H & K Rotosphere, but some of the other sounds on the BC9 are intriguing.

Did need it? Nope.

Did I *want* it? Yep.

Thanks a lot, Tony!!!! (Just kidding)

The latency drove me nuts on fast runs, but the sound is remarkably good. I still might buy one, and try to keep the speed down....

I ordered the C 9 and have been testing it at home with both steel and guitar. The jury is still out.

1. When chords are sustained, some notes drop out.

2. At the start of the sound envelope there is a weird burst of what sounds like distortion. Then the notes appear.

I may stay with the Rotosphere.

Anybody else experiencing these symptoms?

Chris did you keep the C9? I'm in Florida for the winter and am slowly duplicating my instruments down here and next purchase is either a B9 or C9.
I do agree when holding a chord w/B9 the notes die off sort of strangely but all in all I got quite used to playing with it and miss having one. It absolutely requires practice on your attack and forcing to lay off the string bending....but hey, it is quite a weapon in the arsenal Smile

If you'd like to hear an audio review of the C9 pedal with steel, check out Episode 5 of the Pedal Steel Podcast:

https://pedalsteelpodcast.wordpress.com/2015/10/10/episode-5-ehx-c9-digitech-mosaic-jon-rauhouse/

I tried to really put the pedal through its paces, and I came up with a few tricks to make it work better for me. Great pedal!
