Hi, I am interested in a discussion around early Fender non-pedal steel production numbers. I was reading a book today: "Fender, The Sound Heard 'Round The World". By Richard R. Smith. There are production numbers published from 19651 and 1952. Source : Leo's notes.
Sales by unit 1951:
Steel guitars
6 string Deluxe 124
8 string Deluxe 87
6 string double neck 42
8 string double neck 323
Triple neck 235
Student Champion 1083
Proposed Production Jan to June 1952:
6 String Deluxe 150
8 String Deluxe 80
6 String Double 60

I find it interesting how few, except for the Champion, were made. It was early I suppose, for Fender. Things were growing. As seen by the increased production budget for 6 months in 1952. There were no other production numbers in the book. When I think of the world population today, and maybe how many steels actually survived, these things are really quite rare.
Does anyone have any other production numbers for other years to add. Any numbers on the Stringmaster? Which I think was introduced in 1955.
The book is an excellent read for Fender lovers. Lots of early factory photos. I recommend. |
