Basically, grab a chord with your volume pedal on and back it off quickly, then press it back on to where your volume was originally. Sounds simple, but it's really not. I tried for years before I finally threw in the towel. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . That's what it's called? I always called it a "boot block" .
I snapped a couple volume pedal strings perfecting it. ![Mr. Green](images/smiles/icon_mrgreen.gif) |

Kinda sounds like the percussion effect on a Hammond B-3. _________________ A couple D-10s,some vintage guitars & amps, & lotsa junk in the gig bag. |

Sforzando.
Is this the correct musical term for it?
Or is it served with custard ??????? |

In my playing, I call it "a mistake". ![Embarassed](images/smiles/icon_redface.gif) _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I'm not sure sforzando quite fits.
It certainly fits the front half, but gutting also brings it quickly back up.
It's most often associated with Curly Chalker _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

He used it subtly early. Then does it HARD at 0:22 just at the next phrase of the head. He then does it in the pads behind the trombone.

Thanx Lane,
Boy, watching other clips, he was amazing smooth. Like he's compressed and all notes equal energy.
When ever I see Curly C, I think of a steel player I knew who asked him what he could do to become a better steel player. His answer was. "Give up" RP _________________ Emmons SKH Le Grande, '73 Fender P/J bass, Tick tack bass, Regal high strung, USA Nashville 112. |

I learned it early on, early Seventies. Use it frequently. It's not that hard to do! _________________ Dr. Z Surgical Steel amp, amazing!

I use it pretty frequently, too. A good old pot pedal seems to work best for this kind of thing, but I never have tried it with an optics, gear shaft or other design. Just my trusty old Fender. |

DP,
I have always used my old Shobud pedal. As I said, it's really not hard to do, and can be very effective in both leads and accompaniment. _________________ Dr. Z Surgical Steel amp, amazing!

I just found this, sung by Lonnie Mack. The pedal steel player seems to be pressing the volume pedal all the time, otherwise I can't explain how this sound is made. No gutting but maybe volume swells?

Yup. Often used by horn sections, but also organists. |

Just A real slow amp tremolo, probably a Twin, the way it pulses. |
