I had and it was very painful. I did stretching exercise and had about 4 physical therapy sessions and it was fine. I've never had it again.

Hi, Earl, I'm very sorry to hear you're dealing with this. I had it a couple of years ago for months and months, finally got rid of it by rolling golfballs under my foot and other stretching exercises. Unfortunately it's back, and yes, hurts like a bear… so I'm doing the same stuff again. Frozen golf balls give some relief. Everything I've heard from other sufferers speaks against surgery or cortisone injections, so I'm going to try to avoid those. Very best wishes, let me know how you do!

I got rid of mine by wearing "ORTHODICS" or custom made arch supports.
Usually being overweight is the culprit.

Hey Earl,
I've had Planters Fasciitis several times and found the stretching exercises to treat the misery on the internet. I've also used Marks method and that worked well. The stretching exercises helped me the most...and as Mark said about cortisone and surgery, sounded like more pain and therapy when you can do the stretching at home and usually have the same results.....jr

I found that mine was caused by the shoes that I was wearing (not enough arch support.) I make sure that I buy shoes that have good arch support so that my weight is not shifted to the ball of my foot with the resultant stretching of the Achilles tendon. So far this has worked. I wear steel-toes shoes on the job, and I have had to put better arch supports in every new pair that I buy. If you have good, high arches, you can be a "candidate" for this condition.

I am dealing with it now.. The stretching excersise helps a lot, but you have to be consistent with it. I am wearing Sketchers brand shoes with memory foam. The wife had it a few years ago and mostly went away with the method I mentioned. She had the injections in the Heels, and said that was more painful than the planters. Good luck with yours. Larry

I had it for a few years. I almost had surgery but they told me that in my case physical rehab would take 6 months! I became a dedicated stretcher (still am) and gradually I beat it but it took quite a while. The best recommendation would be to try the exercises and stretches and give them plenty of time before you commit to surgery if you are not totally convinced that the surgical option is best for you.

I had it in both feet and underwent the typical therapy including orthotics, cortisone shots, ultrasound shockwave therapy, stretching, etc. and finally found the answer for me was cold laser therapy- 2 treatments and I was fine-that was amazing.

I'm a runner and have had this too. Stretching really helped me. If the pain's bad, take something round and frozen like a frozen bottle of water and roll your foot on it. My daughter recommended KT tape and I was surprised to find it really helped. Mine hasn't returned since the stretching and I still tape up before I run. I wear arch supports when I run and run in cushion shoes. Hope some of this helps you.

I had it once too and perhaps it was a mild case compared to you guys, but it sure didn't feel mild. In any case, this is the one exercise I did that cured it permanently (or at least I haven't had it for about 10 years).

Stand with your toes on a step and then lower your heels below the step, then bring your heels back up and lower them again. Repeat that several times in a session and do several sessions per day. I cured mine that way within just a few days. Your mileage may vary but I hope not!

Plagued with it for most of my adult life including time in the USMC. The exercises helped but orthotics cured the problem. Years ago, I had excellent insurance that paid for the expensive custom jobs made by the pediotrist. About 5-6 years ago Delta Airlines lost my bag with mine. Insurance I have now would not cover the replacecements. SO, I decided to try these and have been every bit as happy as with the ones the pediotrist molded. http://www.footsmart.com/P-ArchCrafters-Custom-Full-Insoles-10049.aspx

Good luck!

Scott: a good idea.

Jim: thanks for the instructions, sounds sound.

I had one as kid and had it removed surgically.
Don't do it; it comes back.
I treat it with my mind if it returns (same spot), but the exercise makes sense somatically. Thanks!

Going thru it now, right heel and arch only. Inserts in the shoe make it where I can walk fairly comfortably. Am experimenting now with binding the arch up with duct tape overnight. Seems to work very well. No pain at all when I do that. Just trying to see what works best.

I had always thought that 'plantars warts' was a condition named for people who work in the field--for example corn planters, really!
It could have been that Planters Peanuts guy in memory from childhood, I don't know where these childhood images come from.

I had to become a somatic therapist to find out about the plantar face of the foot, where we plant it, I suppose. Really!

A very helpful topic.

Earl:
I too had this in my right heel about 8 yrs. ago. Not Fun At All !!! The stretching helped. The other item that helped most was wearing a "Strasburg Sock" (sp ???) to bed. This sock goes on your foot as normal but also straps around your calf. It has a strap going from the calf to the toe area and is adjusted to pull upward on your toes, effectively stretching the foot and tendons overnight while you sleep. After just a few days I was feeling relief. I wore this for about three weeks and the condition was pretty much gone and hasn't returned.

I attribute having this condition to my standing on the front deck of my bass-boat with one foot on the trolling motor for hours. I now have a recessed basin for the trolling motor pedal which is a huge improvement.

Check out that "sock" and I wish you luck in alleviating the pain and problem.

Sincerely,
Chris "Tiny" O.

I had a minor case that seemed to be caused by wearing cheap flip-flops all the time.

I did the stretching exercises for a few weeks, switched to Birkenstocks, and haven't trouble since.

Clyde, forget the duct tape. Go to a feed store or farm supply and get the rubber tape that is used on horses. It is about three inches wide and sticks to itself. Bind the foot with a couple of wraps of this at night. Just ahead of the ankle is where I put it. this works wonders and gives relief now.Don't make it too tight It is also not very expensive about three buck a roll or so.

I have had plantar fascitis in each foot, at different times. I am tall with a very high arch.

Steve used a frozen water bottle. Try a bag of frozen peas. You can form the stuff around the area. Cooking up the peas for dinner later is optional.

Question for you guys: Have you ever had post-recovery numbness in the foot or feet? I am experiencing this now--2 years later-and don't know whether its from the fascitis or maybe a circulation problem. Any ideas?

The fascitis, though, didn't affect my playing. (You can take that either way!!)

Thans Willis, I'll try that. Anything that puts pressure on it relieves the pain. It has been some better the last day or so. Hope I'm over the hump.
