Posted 6 Jul 2015 9:00 am Emmons Guitar Dissolution...
|
|
...according to what I've found at the NC Secretary of States website, it was dissolved as of January 7, 2015. I'll post more later.
Added:
As I understand it, Emmons had not filed a required annual report since 2012. The Secretary of State sent them a "Notice of Grounds for Administrative Dissolution" on September 22, 2014. Apparently, the Secretary did not receive any response, so on January 7, 2015, the "Emmons Guitar Company by Lashley,Inc." was administratively dissolved as a corporation in the State of North Carolina.
So I guess the question of "Are they out of business?", would be "Yes". I'll continue to check the site from time to time but that's my take.
My 2 cents, YMMV. |

Is anyone making PP bell cranks and swivels or selling them? How about the rods with the flat on one end with the clips to connect to the raise fingers? I've got a project going and would like to buy some parts |

Steve,
Regarding the rods with the flat end, I just take rods that I buy at a welding shop and mash the ends with a hammer and drill a hole. |

Well, from what I have been told the Emmons brand has been for sale for quite a while. The price is steep. This is also what Ann Fabian has told us about the Carter brand. For both companies, this includes the blueprints as well as the brand name. For the right price, someone could be the New proprietor of the Emmons Guitar Co. ....... _________________ D.S. Rigsby |

Technically, if someone were to purchase the company, it would be the Emmons company in name only, unless of course if Buddy's son were to buy and restart it. _________________ John Brabant

With the company gone, the trademarks are free. Once you stop trading, mark protection dies pretty quickly

As Lane stated, I think Buddy left the company in the early '90s, so there hasn't been a "Emmons" presence there for a while that I am aware of.
If I were to win a lottery (yeah, right), I would be willing to resurrect the company, but would be making changes. I think the changer really needs to be modified to a minimum 3 raise/3 lower. There are some other changes that should be made mechanically to improve functionality and ease of use for owners.
I would also bring back lacquered guitars. A lot of things would be the same, but some things need updating.
My 2 cents, YMMV. |

You know DG, I was thinking somewhat along your lines... do we need an Emmons company? Or does there need to be a new that modernizes and improves on what the Emmons guitars and other did? The smoothest action, stays in tune the best, modern electronics, etc.
I'd like to see Buddy and other well known players and manufacturers put a whole new animal together. Mind you, I probably won't be able to afford it... _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)

A trademark and a copyright can go on forever. It can be renewed and renewed unlike a patent. A patent only lasts for so many years and then it dies. |

I don't think you have to have a registered "company" to maintain a trademark. All an individual has to do is to sell something (anything?) out-of-state to maintain it. One guitar a year would probably do that. |

I don't think you even have to have a business to have a trademark. Anybody can apply for a trademark. |

I would bring in former Emmons builder/employee Jack Strayhorn to manage it. He knows the Emmons PSG process, engineering, etc more than anyone I know. Plus, Jack is in the area.
Alas, I am just dreaming! TX

I think the Emmons bashers should buy the company.
They always were full of advice as to how the company should be run. |
