I was messing around a couple weeks ago and discovered that select cuts from Aldus Roger & The Lafayette Playboys were recorded in stereo. This means if you turn off one of your speakers all you hear is bass, drums and STEEL! I have been learning a lot of Phillip Alleman's breaks but I was having a hard time isolating him during other instrument's breaks and during vocals. To me, during those times is the most important and hardest. This is true I think with all instruments. You need to keep that dance groove going strong but not step on anyone else's toes. It's all in the groove.

There's a few videos of Aldus on YouTube. Phillip, ( I think that's him) is playing a Fender 400 tuned to open G. I'm not sure what is pedals are set up to do. I'm sure A and B give you a 4 chord but what do C and D pedals do?

Anyway, just thought I would share this discovery. If you want to learn Cajun steel. This is the holy grail in my book.

Are you sure it isn't legendary Orsey Vanicor? He played a 400 and basically wrote the book on Cajun steel playing because he only had one lick and he played it everywhere, always. But it is a killer lick. If you play it you too will be a Cajun steel player.

Tom - can you list a few tracks that Orsey Vanicor played on? Lately I've been going crazy for Cajun music.
