This guitar is named the "Tank". It's got a neat history. It was purchased sometime in '69 by Jerry Lee Lewis himself directly from Emmons for his steel player, Ned Davis. Ned used this guitar on all of JLL's country albums from '69 to '72. Then Ned went on to play with Eddie Rabbitt. Ned passed away in the late '90s and his estate auctioned the guitar. Larry Bell got the guitar from the auction and had Mike Cass restore it. Does anybody know what ever happened to The Tank? Brad Sarno told me he sold it about 10 years back and doesn't know it's whereabouts. I'd love to see more pictures of this amazing axe!!

The guitar was once a fatback, but was cut and the end plate was changed, so unfortunately there is no serial number on this guitar.

Thanks,
Alex

I don't know about the guitar, but I have wondered if this might have been Ned's road case for it. It would have been made years later than 1969 though. I wonder if the case might be from Ned's Eddie Rabbitt days? It does fit my '69 PP like a glove.

I know one thing. That case is a tank by itself! 44 lbs empty. 93 lbs with my PP inside. YIKES!

I met Ned in the late 80's or maybe early 90's at a concert that our band did a warm up act for the Eddie Rabbit show and thinking it was in Denton Texas. Ned was playing a push pull like that guitar so assuming that was it. Ned is a super nice guy and spent some time with him while he showed me the steel ride to, "On Second Thought". Ned plays with his thumb and 3rd and 4th fingers and does a great job.

Yeah, he definitely had a unique picking style, if you notice in the video link, his picks are on his thumb, 3rd and 4th fingers.

"This guitar is on every Eddie Rabbit release. "

Wasn't it mostly Sonny Garrish and some Hal Rugg on those big hits when he broke out??

This is not the tank, but I got it from the person that owns the tank. The serial number on this guitar is....1866 d.... The tank belongs to mr. Bill from Montgomery Alabama. He said that it could be for sale for the right price (but it will not be cheap)....thanks jack

I stand corrected, it was referring to the end plate on The Tank when Larry Bell got it(which wasn't the original). Thanks Chris. But yes, The Blade is a '68.

I wouldn't care who bought it or who played it or has played it, so, why wouldn't it be priced with in line with all other push pulls, if it were for sale. Probably cheaper because it has been drastically altered from a fat back to a cut out.

I've got what I think is Lloyds old JCH or one of his JCH's, anybody wanna give $10,000 for it.

I understand Jack, I was really just venting because some people ask enormous prices for some steels just because so and so owned. What I really did was open my mouth when I should have just kept quite,Smile The older I get, the more I do that, thanks.
