I love good country and no one was better than Lloyd Green. That is just classic Lloyd Green playing and tone.

Lloyd's playing truly touches me like no other on any instrument of any genre.
So beautiful, so elegant and eloquent. I'm glad I'll be able to listen to Lloyd's recordings anytime I wish via the inet. 😊

You guys got that right. Lloyd has that impossibly delicate and personal touch. Listening to him is like being rocked in momma's arms. No, better than even that. The best there ever was IMHO

Lloyd Green promo 45's were being sent to the local radio station on a regular basis, back in the 70's-80's, and I snagged up a bunch of them, played them until they were about worn out!

Lloyd has always been a favorite of mine. Great stuff, thanks for posting! Smile

https://youtu.be/l7MUp8a6Y74 This is another of Lloyd's that I love and I used to be able to play it. I won't bug you with anymore but wouldn't it be super if someone would tab some of Lloyd's songs; it he wouldn't object of course. Thanks in advance.

I can not stop listening to this song.
It stirs me more each time. It's so perfect.
The deeper you listen the more layers there are.
What more could anyone ask for?
Thank you Mr Green

As some would say, "Gets you right in the feels".

Lloyd Green's playing is not only perfection, but as a person, he shares equitable qualities.

He is like the energizer bunny, he just keeps going and going!

Thanks for sharing these sound clips, Charles! I echo the same sentiments as Tommy....I feel very fortunate that I can get on the internet and hear Lloyd anytime I want. AND, I do! Cool

Lloyd has laid out a great role model for younger players! He meant business when he came to Nashville.

Charles; coming from someone that has tabbed many many things from many many great steel players and I get it mostly right if not dead on.
Lloyd is difficult to tab correctly how he played something because he has found areas and movements on the E9 pedal steel, that none of us have even ventured towards. Also his passion and inventive way of melody and the certain string combinations for their ringing quality; makes is almost impossible to tab correctly. Sure I can tab what would work and the correct notes; but WHY? Lloyd gets his sound and feel and movement, because of his inventive ability to hear string combinations that sound out far beyond just the right notes. Lloyd has continued a 3 pedal 4 knee lever copedent from the 60's to today that the knees really don't move very much at all and doesn't even lower the 4th string a half tone.
Every time I've tabbed something played by Lloyd and what I thought I tabbed it perfect; he has called me and said: "you know ricky; that's not how I played it right?" ha. Then he'd tell me how he played it and it was usually far beyond any way I imagined...ha.
So that is also why you won't see a lot of his stuff tabbed out; or tabbed out correctly(the actual strings and position he played it).

Ricky is quite correct!

I've recently made some serious attempts to tab some of Lloyd's music (from ISGC'01 and ISGC'03, as well as from "Revisited") and finding the correct playing positions for large parts of the scores turned out to present a surprisingly large amount of difficulty. Although I'm pretty sure I've been able to identify the correct combination of notes, finding the right combination of strings is still not trivial. Sometimes it even seems like only certain combinations of bar slants and pedal/knee activations can achieve what I hear. Moreover, one must consider the "economy of movement" (Lloyd's own words) of the bar, which means that large sideways jumps across the fretboard can probably be ruled out when considering alternative solutions.

A really challenging pastime it indeed is to tab Lloyds music.

Nothing much to add except a BUMP and a thank you to the winds that Lloyd Green plays steel guitar! If he would have been a sax player... well, we don't want to go there.

Lloyd Green has been one of my favorite steel guitarists since 1970. I have several of his LPs.

Since we don't have Kings here in the U.S. we should call him MAESTRO. Smile

I was a huge Lynn Anderson fan as a kid, and I just fell in love with that sound on her records, and later on when I found out what that instrument was, I just had to learn to play it! Lloyd was my first influence, long before I ever knew who he was, and remains a major influence to this day.

I think that it was Jerry Byrd that no two players play the psg the same, and IMO, it so evident here with Lloyd. I hope that he comes to the DC area so I can shake his hand and thank him for all the music that he has contributed over the years. I never get tired of listening to him. Once I bought a cd from him and he wrote a note to me on it, and I have lost it somewhere, and I sure miss it. It meant so much to me.

Mr. Green is superb as always in these clips. I don't think anyone can voice the notes like he can!

Who is playing resonator on the Don Williams song? I've got a guess, but will keep it to myself!
