Just got back from picking up Jacobs new guitar from Bruce. It's a D-10 8x8,in red burl. My phone camera can't do it justice. It sounds and plays great, and is truly stunning.
I want to say a huge thank you to Bruce for making a young mans dream come true!
Here is Jacob with Mike McGee, and my dad Max King at Bruce's shop.

Jacob, seems to me that you have the world by the tail. You have a supportive father, a fantastic mentor, a lot of talent for your age, and now...you've got one of the best guitars out there. No pressure, young man...but you have no excuses, we're all expecting great things from you š I only regret not being able to start playing steel when I was your age. Now, knock 'em dead, Jacob. Congratulations!

According to Jason, Jacob thought he was getting a SD10. I would love to have seen the look on his face when he saw a D10.

Yes Lee, that is the way it went down. When we walked into Bruce's shop I pulled the towl off that D-10 and he smiled and said man what a great guitar. Still didn't realize it was his. It took a second for us all to convince him it was his. Then a look of shock and he was blown away. I said thats yours buddy. Let me paint a better picture of how this all went down. Stop reading now if this is already to long. LOL
I bought Jacob a Stage One last June for his 11th birthday. I was excited to see if he would take to it like he said he was going to and he did. By late October, I saw the passion and commitment so I called Bruce and was going to tell him that if he ever knew of any good buys on an SD-10 to let me know. Bruce was very interested to hear about a youngster really into playing steel and asked a lot of questions about Jacob. Next thing I know he says " I think I need to build this young man a guitar" I was blown away and said ok, that sounds great! Jacobs steel guitar hero is his teacher Mike McGee. He also new of all the others that played Zum and was already talking about some day I want to be playing a Zum. By March I was seeing just how hard Jacob was working and loving steel guitar so I talked with Bruce and decieded to get him a D-10 so I wouldn't be looking for one in a few years. Jacob loves Buddy Emmons and has wore out the Black album, so C6 is something he wants to learn as he goes. Then in late March, Larry Floyd wanted to trade for a stage one and cash and since Jacobs stage one was going to lack all the changes of his new guitar I was able to work a good deal out with Larry for a SD-10 Zum. I have saved my music money from playing gigs and sold some nice guns I didn't shoot anymore, but its been worth every penny. I appreciate the pats on the back, but I'm just doing my job. LOL. So, thats how all of this got out of hand and I've enjoyed every second of it and more important, so has Jacob. Thanks everyone.
I forgot to add that Jacobs SD-10 is a 93, Red and thanks to Bruce is now a 4x5 with the same changes as he E9 neck on his new D-10. Bruce even had a front attach pedal so it all looks the same. The SD-10 will be a great guitar to play at church and school music programs.
Jacob says I have to post a picture of he and Bruce.LOL
