Neil,
Check out the Southwestern Steel Guitar Association website. There's a few people that do lessons around the surrounding areas. Also, Doug Jernigan has been giving me lessons. He lives outside of Nashville and I live outside of Pittsburgh and we've been doing Skype lessons. So far, it's been working out pretty good. Best of luck! My buddy Rick Schmidt just moved to Prescott, he's your man. Amazing player and he does teach, both E9 and C6 I believe. Also via Skype. Even if you live nearby, Skype is so much less hassle. I teach globally via Skype, just E9.
