I built a 7 string lap steel , only reason I did a 7 was because I got a couple 7 string pickups dirt cheap , anyways what string gauges and what tuning would be best for this guitar , just asking opinions , thanks russ |

I like standard C6th with an extra A on the bottom for some low down minor chords |

a standard C6 CEGACE (low to high) with a Bb on the bottom string opens up a whole world of harmonic possibilities using tritone substitution. This is my primary tuning. "toggling" this string between A and Bb is easy>
I can retune easily to A6 (AC#EF#AC#E) or Jerry's B11 (BC#D#F#AC#E)
You could also try Jerry's C6/A7 (CC#EGACE) but be careful never to pick strings 7 and 6 together! definatley not a good "strum" tuning. |
