all these guys are great, but listening to so many notes can get tiresome after awhile. |

Funny, but it looks from this POV like Dave is playing the bandstand rail…

Yes...Dave plays great "Rail!" We used to watch him play at the Broken Spoke in Nashville and had the same problem. He does play sooo good and always has the best tone too! He is a super person and very good at working on Steels! |

Back in 2001, after Chet Atkins died, there was an Opry show that Jean hosted and Dave was playing steel. They opened with a cover of the Lefty Frizzell song "Gone Gone Gone" and Dave Robbins played the first solo on steel and it sounded awesome! Before the show ended, Jean, Dave, and the band played a slower version of "Secret Love", where Dave played beautiful steel parts! It was one of my favorite episodes! The performers on the show that night were Jean Sheppard, Steve Holy, Jim & Jesse McReynolds, and Tammy Cochran. Jean was hosting the show and Dave played steel for her, while the other artists featured Tommy White, who, at the time, was playing a blue Derby D-10 |

I saw Dave play some kind of a Steel Guitar show in Concord back in the 80's. He was wearing a Derby and man oh man was he shredding on the steel. I went home and thought about quitting as I knew I'd never be that good. I still play but never got that good. Oh well. |

Dave, I was there too, Dave sounded a lot like the big E.. Great player...I would run in to him and his wife now and then when I played in the Bay... |

that must have been the same time i saw him, too. that's why i always say i'm glad he left and went to nashville where he belonged.
i felt the same as dave ristrim.
who needs that kind of competition when you're just trying to survive?
i hope dave robbins reads this and realizes how mean he was to be so good!
it's a little reassuring to hear you other great players felt the same way. |

another funny aspect of that day was that i probably had my steel in my car, but if anyone had asked me at that point i'd have said, 'oh no, never played one!" |

Was that show the Tom Bradshaw Buddy Emmons seminar in Concord? It was 1983 and I'm not sure if we all knew each other way back then... |
