I've just gotten home from the VA hospital, after emergency gall bladder removal. I wanted to thank some folks--they probably won['t see this, here, but it'll be good publicity, I suppose.
First of all, I must give thanks to my Lord, my Saviour, my best friend, Jesus, the Christ. With Him, all things are truly possible.
Without Him---I don't even want to think about it. As the surgical team stood around my bed, before we went into the OR, we prayed together. And I believe that MY Jesus was guiding the surgeon's hand.
The VA has gotten some bad press lately--some, is well deserved, some, not so much. Some of you remember Eric West--He and I used to get into some pretty heated discussions on here, before he died a few years ago. He called me one night, out of the blue, and we talked about...stuff. Including our dealings with the actual caretakers at the VA-doctors, nurses, PA's, everybody who dealt hands-on with patients--There are no better people anywhere, than those at a VA health care facility. We talked a little more--The last conversation I had with Eric--He was gone, within a week. You wanna see dedicated doctors? Men and women who AIN'T out to retire at 50? They're there, at the VA hospital.
Finally, yesterday morning. A guy stuck his head in my room, and says, "I'm looking for Brother Steve Gambrell. Is that you?" "Yes sir, it's me." He was a member of a Lodge around the Columbia, SC area--How he found out about me, a Veteran and Mason, I don't know. We shook hands (yep) and he told me his Lodge liked to drop in on Fellow Masons who were also Veterans. He gave me a little bag--It had a toothbrush, some soap, a razor--stuff a guy might need, if he didn't have time to pack. I had all that stuff, of course, but I took it, thanked my Brother, and he left--to see some more guys.
Those of you who know me--Tommy and Donna Dodd, Chuck Lettes, Russ Hicks--You know my beliefs, and therefore the very foundation of my existence. So, THANKS, Jesus!
And I have never felt prouder to have served my country, in uniform--May God keep His Hand on us all.
And I never knew how much my membership in a Blue Lodge meant to me--Until this anonymous Worthy Brother showed me. Did the surgery hurt? No, not at all, not until the anesthesia wore off. Then, Wooo-WEEE! I won't be around for a few days, while I'm getting back on my feet. But I will be back.
Y'all, git to prayin'! |

Thank you Stephen for your service in the military. My father, Mickey Rhea(also a Mason and Vietnam Veteran) got a new lease on life, thanks to Jesus and the care he received from the staff at the VA Hospital in Wichita Ks. It's great to here something positive about those entities, for a change! I pray you have a rapid recovery. _________________ “TONESNOB†|

I love your testimony and I agree with everything you said. I had an epiphany with my mother on Mar 6, 1954 on a Sunday I believe and that moment changed my life. I was leaving work, I was a commission salesmen with Montgomery Ward and I just wanted to get out and go home when I felt my mothers presence real strong. She had been an avid church worker and she had passed on about 18 months ago. I didn't hear anything but I could feel her love so strong and I sensed that she was very happy. It seemed to me that someone had opened a secret door and I became aware of life after this one. I became a Catholic and I attend mass once or twice a week, and I enjoy my life so much more. |

Thank you guys. Tony, I sorta figured it was coming, but not quite like it did. And when I left my house, last Wednesday, a car had hit a tanker truck, which exploded. The fire closed all 6 lanes of I-26.
Charles, thanks for your testimony. Keep it up. Joe, thanks. I know I can get on folks' nerves, sometimes--but seldom with ill intentions.
Brother Scott, pour it on, Brother!
Edward, there's still a lot that I don't care for, about the VA-but it's the admin folks, not the doctors. Again, it makes me proud to have served, even in such a meager way.
Brother Rick---You heard the one about the red-headed monkey and the rotten canteloupe? |
