Interesting that there is no pic of the front of the guitar...? The most obvious pic to include...
There is a prominent YouTube steeler that lives in placerville. He's on the forum regularly. Perhaps he knows something about it...

i saw the ad but don't know anything about it. dave wren and paul sutherland are from placerville but i don't know if either is involved.
my guess is it's a permanent, but it's a guess. |

I'm no expert on Sho~Bud, but there is a few things on that guitar that make me wonder if it really is a Sho~Bud permanent ...

i wondered about the tuning screws through the endplate and the spring screws.
maybe it's just simply a pull-release sho-bud (or not...) |

Perhaps a very late one? There are some odd things about the endplate. The endplate looks thin, and there are screws going through it into the "deck plates." The old Perms I've seen had a quarter round shape at the back edge of the E9th body plate where it meets theC6th plate. This body and endplate have a 90 degree angle. I seem to recall a guitar with the springs on the earlier ,and long, Perm thread. I don't know!

I looked through a bunch of the old threads including that 17 pager. Lots of stuff very similar, but nothing quite like this. None have the extra row of screws lower in the endplate. Most of the perms seem to have a rounded top on the changer pillow blocks, the squared off ones seems to come later. Most also have exposed screws in the top corners of the deck. One thing I did see in looking through all the old pics is there were a lot of variations and oddball combinations, so anything is possible I suppose. The one on CL has the offset tuning keys at 5&6 and the older style narrower casting like one of your pictures in another thread, John.
Or perhaps it's just a Frankensteel. |

David, yes and to be honest I haven't really got it figured out, yet. It was a total rebuild, down to the smallest screws and I had to remake most of the metal work under the guitar, along with the changer pillow blocks and housings, which meant it took a lot longer than I had anticipated and I had to put it away and go back to work. I still have to do the knee levers and the 3 peds for the 16 string neck haven't been decided. It's currently tuned to a variation of DADF#AD.

| The strange thing is it almost looks original the way it's put together. I don't see a lot of extra holes in the body or in the end frame, very unusual to say the least. I'm going to stick with the Z-Bud Theory. |

| Could it be possible that this is some sort of special order or experiment built by Sho-Bud? It looks kind of like a Fingertip or perm style changer with ZB style fingers. The end plate does not have extra holes like if it was converted. |

Well, that is a Shobud Perm body. But the mechanics shure ain't Shobud!
I wonder how it plays and sounds. Might be very nice, ya never know!

She's purdy, I wonder why the seller excluded that pic. I would have put it first in the ad. The inlays are the same style as Curly's fingertip on the cover of Big Hits on Big Steel.
