Leo,
I just read Lawton Jiles' book about the Bakersfield Sound and purchased a couple more copies to send to family. It's a real interesting and easy read about the history and the evolution of that wonderful era in country music history, arguably the greatest. I especially liked how Lawton paid tribute to the session and side musicians, like you. The chapter about Don Rich was outstanding. Thanks for the tip.

I also enjoyed The Birth Of The Bakersfield Sound by Lawton Jiles.
Fans of the Jiles book should also appreciate the Buck Owens biography by Eileen Sisk. Not always a pretty story, but very, very interesting. Should be of great interest to steel players, with many stories about McDonald, Mooney, Brumley, Maness, etc.
Lots of biographical information about Don Rich, as well as Doyle and Willie. Outstanding book about the entire Bakersfield scene, not just Buck Owens. |

The History of Traditional Country Music is on the move for Southern California and it's Trilling life of so many from all over this Nation and the World who made a mark in the neighborhoods that Lawton Jiles pointed out in his book. What a hot bed for Country Music Musicians/Songwriters & Club Owners in the 60's/70's/80's & late 90's til. |
