One of the amps I use is a 65 watt MM bass head. Recently it started giving me a loud white noise( hiss). It does this when turned on. It does not have to be connected to the guitar or effects unit. It produces sound just fine but with the hiss. I have had it for several years and have never done anything to it other than replacing the caps and adjusting the bias. I am told that tube amps need to have the tubes and sockets cleaned periodically which I have never done. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing the hiss. I have contacted a repair tech and plan to get it to him but I am looking for some ideas as to the possible cause.

Tim no I have not but I have been giving some thought to that. A friend who has done tech work in the past has suggested I try that. I may do it before I haul it to a repair shop.
