I got this late model Carter to try out the Universal setup and it made me a convert. Recent purchase of a Zum is the only reason I'd let this one go! Immaculate condition, grey swirl mica. 7 and 5, triple raise/ triple lower changer with BCT, standard Emmons/ Newman setup on floor pedals with knees as follows: LKL= 2nd D#-D and 9th B-D LKV= 5th B-Bb LKR= 1st F#-G# and 6th G#-F# RKL= all three E's to F's RKR= 2nd D#- C# 4th and 8th E's to Eb. Plays extremely smooth and tight, stays in tune great, sounds wonderful (George L's pickup). Light and stable, Case in new condition. Great looking guitar!

Hi, Dan, the Carters are indeed fine guitars. I've owned 4 or 5 over the years and they've been consistently well made, good sounding, solid lightweight instruments. I got this one knowing it would be a good intro into the Universal tuning setup, and it't what convinced me to go that way full time. Only selling as I have two other 12's now.
The BCT refers to Carter's patented "Body Contact Technology" which was a later invention to maintain more body contact in the changer design for longer sustain and better tone, perhaps angling toward the classic Emmons Push-Pull body/finger contact tone. When they first announced it I was somewhat skeptical, at the time my main road guitar was an older Carter D 10 and I had a Studio D 10 that came with the BCT and couldn't hear a whole lot of difference… but on a road trip through texas I left off the older guitar to be retrofitted with the BCT and when I got it back I was amazed at the noticeable increase in sustain and better tone and string separation. So for me BCT is a winner.
The presence of BCT is indicated by the smaller white Patent label underneath the larger silver Bud Carter label you can see on the underside at the right.

I'm looking for a carter D12, If my D10 Fessenden
sells that I have posted on the forum I would be
interested in your D12 Carter.I need a lighter guitar,I have a bad elbow with arthritus.
My Blue D10 is as close to new as you can get.
The guitar was 4500.00 and I was trying to get
2850.00 but .no takers.
If mine sells I,ll check back with you

Is the Neuman setup the Day setup: Which I play.
I don't play the Emmons Setup.
I rock from 2 to 3 pedal day setup.

Hi, Chuck, if you meant single Universal 12, I'm your guy. I'm not sure carter ever built a double 12, they're rare birds!
And actually, if mine was set up TRUE Newman style, it would be Day setup, C B A on the floor pedals, as that's the way Jeff played 'em. What I meant was Newman style on the 4th through 7th pedals, he eliminated the old C6 4th pedal, moved the old 8th ("Boo-Wah") pedal there to be next to the 5th pedal, and then kept the standard 5th-7th C6th pedals. The first three E9 pedals on this one are Emmons setup, or A B C. The good news, Carters are a snap to change over, so no problem to change from Emmons to Day at all. There is a reducer on the B pedal which makes the leverages smoother timing the 3rd string pull with the 6th and 9th. One of Bud Carter's slick tricks. But that one would of course stay the same for Day or Emmons setup.
