I am selling off a bunch of gear (Vox Tear Drop and a Harmony hollowbody) in order to pick up a lap steel.

Looking for suggestions. I want a console, I love the playing on Hank Williams records, and am considering a George Board console.

Been looking at Remingtons and a few other brands. My budget is around $800.00 for a steel.

I just got two Johnny King Lap Steels in today. What a great bargain. Very well made. I think he has a couple in the classified section. I guess he makes consoles too. It would not hurt to ask.

Do yourself a Favor and check out RAM Guitars. I believe that's the brand. They make a beautiful Console steel modeled after early Gibsons. I think the one model is called the Ram Neo? a quick forum search will turn them up.

Wow, that's a solid suggestion. Probably would pursue if I didn't already own the real thing. I have a 3 neck Gibson which I mainly use for E6 tuning. It has that Don Helms sound.

For this instrument I want to get more of a Jerry Byrd/ Hawaiian sound. It doesn't have to nail the Jerry Byrd sound, I just want a console that can get that island sound. I have to say the top 3 I've considered are the Remmington, the George Board and I've looked at the frying pan copy.

Just to add to your choices. If you got / had something like one of Mark Roeder's great stands, then that opens up a lot more possibilities than just a console model. http://www.deluxe34.com
