I had the pleasure of seeing Chris play with Marty Stuart in Hamilton, Ontario last night.
The band was playing great and singing their butts off, as you would expect.

As a new member of the Fabulous Superlatives, I felt Chris did a fantastic job.
He played electric and stand up bass, drums(!) and, of course, steel guitar.
He was also featured on acoustic guitar, singing a great song he'd written.
(Marty and the rest of the band left the stage for that very poignant segment).
Bravo Chris!

I'm not real clear what's going on here - is the rest of the band intact - Kenny, Harry and Paul?

Or Is it sort of like The Band back in the day when Levon Helm would vacate the drum throne to step up front and sing a tune while playing a mandolin, and Richard Manuel would leave his piano and take over on drums, sort of literal version of musical chairs?

After I posted I decided to go for the google approach, and I come to find out that bassist "Apostle" Paul Martin in fact left the band a few months ago.

I do vaguely recall something about this from several months back, Paul left because he wants to tour more with his family, billed as The Martin Family Circus.

Hi Mark,
Sorry if that was a bit vague.
You're right about Chris replacing Paul, who has gone on to tour with his family.
Kenny and Harry are still there.
During the show, they occasionally switch instruments ... musical chairs as you described with The Band.

I was honoured to be there. Great show!

Chris was mostly on bass (both electric and stand-up) and harmony vocals, but he did several songs on Steel, and even one of his own compositions solo - just his vocal and guitar. He even had a turn on drums.

Hi Joey,
Had I known you were there, I'd have introduced myself!
I was sitting centre, near the mixing console and bumped into a few folks I knew from way back.

See this is the talent of Chris Scruggs. You could hand him a tuba and he would be a great tuba player. All those guys are multi talented musicians. Whatever it takes they'll play it. Just a GREAT band.

Notice how Marty Stuart lets Kenny have ALL the leads. The epitome of taste.

Thanks Kevin for the link,

Those guys are just fabulous, I really love their new Cd too, as well as Kenny's solo Cd that I got recently.

If Chris reads this, my wife wants to know the real story about Marty's neck scarf, is the the tattoo story real, or just adding to the mistery? Whoa!
