According to the notes below the video, it was Jerry Byrd.

Doh! Thanks, Brad.
'Forgot to click "Show More." Didn't sound like Byrd to me on first listen.

The comment about Byrd is in reference to a much later recording "Who's The Biggest Fool".

You can find the following info online, but it certainly does not sound like Herby to me--by which I mean I don't hear any "Herbyisms"--though I'd guess he could sound like that if it was his intent on such a pure "hillbilly" recording.

The song has kind of a mambo thing going on, where I'd expect someone with Herby's talent to flip out a bit and do something more in line with a mambo, but it sounds very mundane to my possibly tin ears.

This source says "probably", but I note that the songwriter is "J. Shell", almost certainly Jim Shell of Dallas, which might imply a Dallas recording rather than Houston.

It's probably lost to history unless you think you can ID the player by ear.

March 1955 Goldstar Studio, 5628 Brock St., Houston, TX - Chuck Mayfield (prob. Hal Harris [ld gt], ? [rh gt], Herb Remington [steel], ? [bass], ? [drums], ? [fiddle], ? [piano] + vocal chorus. Producer: Pappy Daily)

Hmmm. Doesn't really sound like Jerry or Herb but given the TX connection, very unlikely to be JB.
