When a man loves a woman
Can't keep his mind on nothing else
He'll trade the world
For the good thing he's found
If she's bad he can't see it
She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
If he put her down
When a man loves a woman
Spend his very last dime
Tryin' to hold on to what he needs
He'd give up all his comfort
Sleep out in the rain
If she said that's the way it ought to be
Well, this man loves a woman
I gave you everything I had
Tryin' to hold on to your precious love
Baby, please don't treat me bad
When a man loves a woman
Down deep in his soul
She can bring him such misery
If she plays him for a fool
He's the last one to know
Lovin' eyes can't ever see
When a man loves a woman
He can do no wrong
He can never own some other girl
Yes when a man loves a woman
I know exactly how he feels
'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're my world
When a man loves a woman..... _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

When a Man Loves a Woman was his first single, released in 1966. It was, and is unforgettable.

I played a string of dates with Percy in the 80's. Got a couple of my better road stories out of it. He was a real character. _________________ Stop by the Steel Store at: www.markvanallen.com

I had the honor of sharing the stage with Percy back in the early '90's. He came through Branson and came out to the club I was playing and got up to sit in with our band, He did a 20 min version of When A Man Loves A Woman. What a night that was! He said he really liked the steel guitar, And yes he was a Character...... |

One I can relate here…
First night I played with Percy he invited us (backup band) back to his hotel room. He introduced us to his wife, who OBVIOUSLY did not want us there, made a kind of "humph" noise at each one of us as we were introduced… He offered us some fried chicken and she snatched up the carton and put it under the bed! Then turned on the TV and just kept turning it up every few minutes. Percy was enjoying regaling three skinny white pups with his herb and road stories which were numerous and mostly hilarious. Every couple of volume increases from the TV I would say to Percy "Seems like we need to get going…" and he would say, "Naw, naw, don't pay any attention, she's cool…" eventually the TV got so loud the front desk called and threatened to throw him out. We left, and his wife slammed the door so had the (screwed on) fire and checkout rules fell off the back of the door inside.
Next night I said something to Percy about us pissing off his wife and he laughed. "No worries, Mark, she's just my wife for this week! _________________ Stop by the Steel Store at: www.markvanallen.com
