There are some institutions that should simply not go away- Nestle, Gerber’s, Cocoa Cola, and Goodrich. After 50 years Ollie and Curt have decided to retire from Goodrich and Kevin Ryan and I have purchased the company and are relocating it to Oceanside, CA. When I heard the news that they were going to retire and close the company I felt a pang of remorse because since I started playing 42 years ago a Goodrich volume pedal is what a steeler had to have and I just couldn’t let it go away. Kevin and I spoke about it and we decided that we couldn’t just let it go and negotiated a sales price and intend to be back up and running in a few weeks (road trip from Georgia ). The Goodrich name has long been associated with quality American hand made products and we intend to keep it that way. We are aware of the recent problems with potentiometers and that is our 1st order of business. For the past few months we have been researching suitable replacements for the PEC pots and are making good progress. To that end, we commissioned Ross Shafer (a fellow forum member and design engineer from Sierra) to build an instrument to help us determine the actual life of a pot and it works fabulously and you can see it in action here! We have also been polling steelers as well as guitar players to learn what they would want that they don’t have and fully intend to move forward with improvements. We hope to have their old phone number but currently the number is 760-547-1260.Thank you all for your support.

Good for you, Jim!
I've been using Goodrich volume pedals for about 40 years now. I would hate to see that name go away.
Best of luck to you. _________________ Lee, from South Texas - Down On The Rio Grande

Jim,
Good on you and Kevin. No doubt you will do a great job. And since I don't have a Goodrich pedal it's time to start saving up for one.

My Goodrich 120 pedal that I got in the 70s still works, but has been replaced; by a new L120. Great volume pedals. It's good to hear the company will continue in excellent hands. _________________ It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. |

Excellent news! I've had some fancy pedals, but when things go south, I always rely on my Goodrich. Good to see the company is in good hands. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

Pleased to read of the acquisition and that this fine product will live on...FWIW: In my opinion, worse than the Goodrich name simply fading from existence, would be to have it placed on an inferior foreign built product as so many revered brand names have in the past. |

Kevin and I got up at 3:30 this morning and flew into Georgia, rented a 16' Penske truck and drove to Dublin to meet with Ollie and Curt. 2 nicer guys can't be found on this planet. They had everything packed up and ready to go and we spent the next 3 hours packing the truck to the brim. As we were leaving they gave us their vests autographed by many of the most famous steelers that have graced our world. It was an emotional passing of the torch and we will endeavor to honor their legacy.

That's a great pic of Ollie and Curt!
Jim, I'm glad you're taking over the helm and keeping the name going. Goodrich has always been a reputable name in the steel industry and I'm sure it will still be in your hands. |

Congratulations to you Jim and Kevin! This is good news for the steel guitar community, and I know that you will continue to provide a great product and service.
To those of you who may not be familiar with Jim and Kevin, you will not find 2 people on this planet that are any more knowledgeable about steel guitars and peripheral equipment. And besides that, they are both honest, nice guys!!

Jim,
It goes without saying around here that if Palenscar is providing a product or a service
you can expect both a great product as well as the finest service available.
I for one am very glad you are taking the reins on this American icon Goodrich.
May I ask if you also intend to continue the other product lines of Goodrich such as their Matchboxes?
Those were great products as well and I'd like to see them available again in the future.
I believe the lion share of us have come up with the Goodrich line of products thru the years
and I am sure we are all pleased to see the company continuing in your capable hands.
