There is an Emmons S-10 Steel now listed on ebay. I'm wondering if it's a student model because of the wood pedal board and very lean raised neck design. The fret board sets right on the body, it has standard emmons wraparound endcasts, and the changer looks like it's a bolt-on. I've seen another Emmons guitar like this before. But I'm wondering if at one time Emmons made these as an upgraded student model guitar. You can see the guitar I'm talking about by clicking below. NR

Nick:
Looks to me like there is a neck that the fretboard sits on although maybe only half the thickness of a standard neck. Other than that, I know about as much of this as you do.

I have an old Emmons student model and the fretboard is on the body. The one on e-bay is not a student model. if someone want to give me that much for mine, I will probably drive it to their house.

Is this not the Emmons' P/P student model that was listed in their old catalogue that they used for so many years?
It sure looks like it to me,

I believe the S-10 Emmons in question is actually called "The Black Rock". Buddy Cage was pictured in an 70's Emmons catalog with one of these guitars.

I was thinking "Black Rock" as well but I don't recall it having the aluminum trim around the front as the guitar pictured. I remember an insert that came in an Emmons catalog I got in the early to mid 70's. Bobby Black was sitting behind it. |

Yep that on is exactly like mine. Notice the different fretboard. One is raised and the other is not. Also the undercarriage looks a little more complex on the first one.

Nick, I know that guitar. In fact, I wanted to buy it, to keep from hauling my D-10 to gigs where I only need steel for two or three songs. It's just a good-sounding, no frills push-pull. And somebody got a DEAL! |
