I'm just getting back into learning steel and been searching for an amp and have run across an old Peavey Artist with a 15 inch Black Widow.. I'm not familiar with this amp, can anybody tell me if this will make a good steel amp

It will, in all likelihood, be just fine as a steel amp.
It might be a little light on headroom if you'll be gigging soon.
I'm NOT sure you wouldn't like the Deluxe better.

The Deluxe is only 22 watts and breaks up fairly easy

120 watts out of 4 6L6 tubes in the power amp section and 15" BW sounds good to me. Quite a bit of headroom, actually.
Solid state pre amp.... Probably an excellent steel amp.

Didn't realize that was a big boy.
Hell, sounds like Son of Deuce.
Should be a fine steel amp.
What you should have done was kept yer Twin.
You know, the you blasted me and Josie off the stage with. Winking

I have one with a 12" speaker and it's good with steel or tele. A friend of mine has the 15" version and it sounds very good with steel.

I've got a used one w a 12" at the shop for sale and, besides the fact that it's heavy- it is a great steel amp!

The guy decided he didn't wanna sell the Artist after all, but that's ok because I just got a great deal on a Session 400
