So I've been getting my rig together and want a couple of opinions. I have a Carter u12 I got from the great Mark Van Allen who is just a lovely steel player. If you haven't heard him, do yourself a favor and go check him out. I run a Hilton volume pedal, ehx holy grail nano reverb, waiting on my carbon copy delay to come in, boss chorus, and ordering an ebow. I play more modern style with the gorgeous swells etc. First off what do yall think of my rig? Secondly, how would yall run the circuit, and lastly are there any other neat gadgets or things that you its feel really could give me that warm wonderful sound? I am using a custom built ampcwith the fallen Krueger bass head. What is the deal with the black box and that type of thing? Is it worth it and would it really help my rig that much more? I also have a fender tube amp I'm setting up. Any input and advice would be great. Thanks in advance. Also, where can I buy a chrome bar? I heard they're good for u12's and bar noise??

You have all you need for the big warm sound you seek.
Just add several thousand hours of seat time, a pleasing tone is typically the last penny to drop.
The Black Box is cool as a tone sweetener, but likely won't help til you get yer hands in order.
Gadgets can take you 5-10% of the way. The first 90-95% is, sadly, on you.

I've had three new Carter U-12's during the time they were in business. Only thing I found on each guitar was this, the .026W 7th string wouldn't tune true on each one. A .024W however, solved that issue on all three guitars. I also used a 12-1 George L pickup on each one for quietness and sessions.

Thanks for the input I'll have to get some .24 wound strings. Any suggestions on strings and the gushes that work best for the carter u12?

What do you find lacking in the way it is currently set up.

MVA played that guitar and got a very warm tone out of it.

The only effect I like on steel is reverb... and only a pinch of it.

I did also enjoy an Electro harmonix HOG pedal to dial in Hammond..trumpet ...and sax tones.
