Below is an excerpt from the Country Music Hall of Fame for a show this Saturday. If any of you are in the area, the show starts at 2pm.
Lloyd will be playing with some of the top shelf musicians he played with while cultivating that "Nashville Sound" we all love and hear today. That sound so many of us try to emulate in our playing.

Lloyd Green developed an emotional, resonant style of pedal steel guitar playing that gave him a distinct sound apart from other top steel specialists. Along with Jimmy Day, Buddy Emmons, and Bud Isaacs, he revolutionized the instrument with his ability to elevate a recording through dramatic melodic runs and innovative rhythmic and harmonic effects.
Green began playing Hawaiian steel guitar at age seven. Three years later he was performing professionally around Mobile, Alabama. His interest in pedal steel drew him to country music, and he toured in the bands of Hawkshaw Hawkins, Faron Young, and Ferlin Husky before his studio career took off—thanks to the staccato chords and syncopated single notes he added to Warner Mack’s 1965 hit “The Bridge Washed Out.â€
Green has contributed to hundreds of country recordings, including classic hits by Freddie Hart, Alan Jackson, Johnny Paycheck, Charley Pride, Don Williams, Tammy Wynette, and others. He also recorded with Ivory Joe Hunter, Henry Mancini, Paul McCartney, the Monkees, John Stewart, Billy Swan, and Jerry Jeff Walker. Beyond Nashville, his work on the Byrds’ Sweetheart of the Rodeo album greatly influenced the sound of country-rock.[/b]

Several yeas ago I used Lloyd on a session, when he opened his case he asked if I thought Shot would be proud of this guitar. I told him I'm sure he would be. Then Lloyd said he had done over 5000 sessions with that Sho Bud. Very amazing! |

Well, I couldn't make the show, but I did produce a session a few days later and hired Lloyd and Wayne Moss for the date... _________________ John Macy

The thing I get tickled about, is he is still knocking those sessions out. Good living and a strong desire for the instrument goes a long way. _________________ Traveler, Peddler and Extreme life lover. Giving up is not an option. |
