I've been messing around with a New Supro Thunderbolt+. It seems to handle headroom issues ok, at the 65w setting...used a couple in a stereo studio set up to record, and they sounded darn good. I can dial it down to 35w...great for some lap steel bite... and it breaks up nicely...may swap out the 15' it comes with, and try an eminence EPS15 I have around...
EQ is a bit limited with only one tone knob.
Anyone else tried these amps? Opinions?
Cheers Surprised)

I've been thinking about those amps, mainly for the power options. What are you hearing that makes you want to try out a different speaker? I have an amp with a valco type circuit and it can be darker or less hi fi. I tried a more efficient speaker and a better output transformer which gave more headroom and better lows but the tone is the same.

Thanks

I love an amp with one tone control, as long as the amp itself has an inherently good sound. If it doesn't, then more knobs just means a greater variety of bad sounds.

The Supro caught my eye for this reason along with the 65 watts and 15" speaker. That's about perfect for my needs if the speaker is efficient and the amp stays pretty clean. Listening to the online video clips, however, leaves me doubting it would have enough headroom for steel. Sounds like it is designed to break up early.
