Does anybody know who played the steel guitar on,
Amazing Grace(used to be her favorite song). Absolutely love the way they get into the song with
that intro. I believe these guys were session musicians from the Memphis area. I like all their
music. Anybody know any of them? Hope I'm in the right section with this thread. T.L.

I think it would have been Barry Byrd Burton . ARAces were /are a great band with many fine records to their name I believe they never got the credit they deserved . They still tour occasionally with 2 original members , Russell Smith and Billy Earheart . We were lucky in Australia to have them tour here half a dozen times

One of my favorite groups also.

Yes Ivan, Jim Vest played on a later album of theirs "Chock Full of Country Goodness" from 1998.

We saw ARA at the Wheeling Jamboree. When the curtain opened and they began playing, the crowd, expecting to see a traditional country act, rushed out of the theater like it was on fire, allowing us to grab front row seats. Great band, one of my favorites.

Biggest ARA fan ever, here. What a versatile bunch of musicians and variety of music.

They went away between the late 70's, early 80's and the mid-90's. Lost one of the kingpins of the band in drummer, songwriter, vocalist Butch McDade.

Byrd played on that first album, yeah...and a few more. After he left, it was Duncan Cameron on guitar, steel and a variety of other stringed instruments.

All their music was very good and some of it I consider truly great.

I seem to remember reading or hearing of the fact that when Sammy Kershaw covered, 'Third Rate Romance', he used many of the musicians from the original, true or false?

Peter, you did a wonderful version of Lipstick Traces in Phoenix!
A little off topic but here's a killer version of the song:

And of course a big Aces fan here, too.
We used to play Amazing Grace and King of the Cowboys in the late 70s
Russel Smith's first solo album is also worth checking out. Recorded with the Muscle Shoals guys...
What a voice he has!
