I am a rookie to steel guitar building. I have one that's about 3/4 complete, and one that I just started. These two builds are based on the Martin Koch book, which I am sure most people are familiar with. Are there any other resources of steel guitar building available? The internet has not turned up much. Nothing against Mr. Koch. His book is quite informative. I just think I need different ideas now.

Hi James,

http://www.mimf.com/ is a great site for guitar building in general and does document some lap steel builds. There are some other online resources that might help as well, one being: http://steelguitarbuilder.com/forum/ , but if you do a google search I'm sure you'll find others...

Best,

Julian

Our own Randy Cordle has posted a lot of resources about instrument building, and has both a page on lap steel construction and a CD of plans and construction advice:

I bought one of the cd's a few years back..... if it is still available it is well worth the money. I learned alot that I utilized when I built my 8 string console. I think that Randy has put steel building on the back burner for a time. I never seem to catch one for sale. I had a chance to play a Bluestem out in Santa Fe New Mexico and it was a very nice steel. Had a great sound and feel to it.
