It's a shame that you don't want a strobe, because Peterson tuners are the best, and I love the StroboStomp Classic. (I have 3 of them, a StroboFlip, and a StroboRack - and had an old VS-II)

The old white Boss tuners still serve a lot of people well though.

Good luck,

Here is a list of tuners in order of what I think you might like. Look them up on the web. (1) Korg Pitchblack Plus, programalble for tempered settings for 2 different instruments. It`s has 2 stomp switches. (2) Korg Pitchblack. (3) TC Electronics stomp tuner, has some cool features but geared more toward a 6 string.

I use an older version of the Korg Pitchblack Portable, inline it degrades my tone but I leave it always on from the dedicated jack of my volume pedal. I like it because it`s rectangular and lays nicely along the back of my pedal bar.

Turbo Tuner would be my #1 choice but it would be a strobe. Otherwise I'd go with the old standby boss tuners.

Here's a good buy for a very good tuner:

I've had two of these and really liked them until I went to the peterson strobe

Seems silly to get excited over a tuner pedal, but man, the Peterson Stomp Classic is really nice. Very versatile, not to mention indestructible.

Chris..The Korg 'Pitchblack' works really well. The method I used was to hook up both my Peterson 'StroboPlus'(I use the OE9 tuning preset) and the Korg and observe the lights on the Korg while tuning. Once you commit the offsets to memory, it should tend to be very accurate...Disclaimer: Only difficulty that I found with the Korg: it is nearly useless outdoors in bright sunlight, the lights become barely visible.

Korg Pitchblack Plus is great - the LED's are much bigger & easier to see than on the regular Pitchblack, in fact it has 2 rows of them, one with the single red block to the left (flat) or right (sharp) of the green (in tune), and above that a row that "strobes" to the left or right. I think you can set how these behave as well as program different temperaments. And the fact that it is also an a/b switch can be really handy if you want to run two instruments into the same rig.

ALSO- these are true bypass, which isn't that common for tuners (the Boss ones are not, unless the TU-1000 might be.) I found that to make a big difference, I was surprised how much - I think since steel pickups tend to be much higher impedance than guitars, having a buffer on there (at least the wrong kind) really affects the tone.

The Pitchblack Plus does not seem to be available on line now, I'm not sure if new ones can be found. There is another digital tuner, the Go Go tuner that beat out the Pitchblack and the Boss in a you tube shoot out. It was noted for it's large readout, accuracy, and ruggedness.

Still another one is the GFS GFT-90 available at www.guitarfetish.com/
