Looking around for options on a new steel, I haven't decided yet to upgrade my existing one or buy a new one.
My wife wants to stay in our budget. We have found a brand on e-bay and contacted the gentleman who makes them. The brand name is Wilcox.
Did a search of the forum but came up empty. Can anyone tell me pro or con about them. If you wish you may e-mail them to me.
Thanks

Tom,there was some talk about those steels here on the forum but we couldn`t come up with any conclusions at that time.I don`t know anyone who plays one.It could be a good guitar but it could be a bad one too.Price is ok but I don`t know anything about guitars itself.I would guess that if you buy one of those guitars it would be hard to sell it since nobody is familiar with that brand. But again, they may be a fine guitars.I guess this didn`t help much, right?sorry

Tom,
His EBAY profile shows he made a SD-10 back in August that sold for $760 (no reserve). Description was as follows: Single 10 string, E9th tuning, built on a double neck frame. Aluminum Neck, Sperzel Keys, All pull system. adjustable Chrome rear Legs 3 Floor Pedals / 4 Knee levers Gloss green Formica.Black vinyl arm pad.excellent playing guitar. It is newly built,,,sounds great and plays great.Emmons pedal setup. Case included
Kind of puzzling, after considering his labor and parts, looks like he would make more flipping burgers. Maybe he's hoping he can establish himself as a builder. If he is building steels, I would think somebody might know him? Maybe somebody is in his area and would be curious enough to give him a visit and try one out for you? EBAY profile indicates he is in Illinois. |

Well plans change all the time. Got an intresting offer on a sho bud. Guess I will go melt the ice in the front yard and wait on more info. Like I told "She who must be obeyed" "Why drive all day for an unknown when a sho bud may be around the corner".
Thanks Guys.
Guess we can close this on out. |

I emailed the builder of these steels, his name is Chet Wilcox. I received the following email from him:
"I do not have a web site because i cant mass produce or compete with the
major manufactures, but my steel are very good and will be around longer
than i will. They are Quality ,play good sound good and look good,I build all
the parts myself, and have no help so it takes me a while to build them. and
i dont make any money on them, I just love the instrument, Chet"
I told him he should have a web site and this was the answer. I asked permission to post his email address here but haven't heard back from him yet.
Just heard from the gentleman. His name is Chet Wilcox and his email address is cwshop62@mchsi.com
Feel free to contact him if you wish to know anything about his steels.
