Jody I have a Fender double eight with the trapezoid pick ups. It is the model with three legs. There is a date under on tuning head pan of February 1954.the serial no. is 2911. Was this about the time of the change to the stringmaster or did they make both of them for a short period. This one is a light blonde color,I also had one that was Walnut.Thank for your help.

Bud, I would never assume to speak for Jody, but here is some info from George Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars:
* the Stringmaster was introduced in 1953. The early ones had metal pickup covers (like the Telecaster neck pickup).
* the Dual 8 Professional with Trapezoid pickups was made until 1957. Beginning in 1957 the D-8's took on "stringmaster features" (2 understring pickups per neck, blend control, bridge cover, etc.)
According to that info, Fender produced both Trapeziod PU models and "understring" PU models (stringmasters) for a period of 3 or 4 years.

The info supplied by Jody is correct.
This is not a "Pedal Steel", so I'm moving this to "No Peddlars". |
